Determination of Chloride concentration in process water
Chlorides may be present are a key parameter to monitor in the process water used in the galvanic process. Monitoring helps ensure that the water meets the quality standards required for the galvanic process. The excessive presence of chlorides can accelerate the corrosion process of components in galvanic tanks.
Test principle
The chloride ions react with the mercuric thiocyanate and release thiocyanate ions. The thiocyanate ions react with Fe (III) giving an orange complex whose intensity, measured at 520 nm, is directly proportional to the concentration of chlorides in the sample.
Calibration curve
The calibration curve was constructed using standard chlorides solutions. The trend of the curve confirmed an excellent linearity of the system over the whole measuring range.
